Gaia Feasibility : Current Research on Critical
نویسندگان
چکیده
ESA is supporting an industrial study aimed at preliminary assessment of some critical aspects of the GAIA mission implementation: hereafter, our study approach is presented. The Fizeau interferometer of GAIA features a strict correlation between the conventional telescope and interferometer concepts and problems. The wide angle measurement concept is based on the stability of the basic angle between two macroscopic structures: the implementation is challenging. An experiment will address feasibility and performance of metrology at sub-nanometer level, over 0.5 m distance, controlling displacement and relative orientation (`tip-tilt') of two platforms, simulating optical elements of GAIA. System deenition is based on the scientiic rationales of GAIA; however, trade-oo among competing requirements, if needed, should neither descope the mission nor push any critical parameter to its limiting values. Most of the critical aspects which arose in the Cambridge 1995 workshop on GAIA are being addressed, and some viable solutions seem to be taking shape: microarcsecond global astrometry is becoming closer to implementation .

Peripheral Facial Palsy in Emergency Department
Introduction: Peripheral facial palsy (PFP) is commonly diagnosed in every emergency department. Despite being a benign condition in most cases, PFP causes loss in quality of life mostly due to facial dysmorphia. The etiology of PFP remains unknown in most cases, while medical opinion on epidemiology, risk factors and optimal treatment is not consensual. The aim of this study was to review the ...

The astrometry mission Gaia of the European Space Agency (ESA) will scan the entire sky several times over 5 years, down to a visual apparent magnitude of 20. Apart for its primary targets, the stars, that will be mapped during the course of the mission, Gaia is expected to observe more than 300,000 asteroids (Mignard et al., 2007). Although our census of asteroids is about complete at a such m...

This paper explores the fulfillment of Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) processes and practices by two widely published agent-based software development methodologies: Multiagent Systems Engineering Methodology (MaSE) and Gaia. Comparisons of these methodologies have been documented and published, but no known research exists that compares and contrasts these methodologies with the ...
متن کاملUsing Java for distributed computing in the Gaia satellite data processing
In recent years Java has matured to a stable easy-to-use language with the flexibility of an interpreter (for reflection etc.) but the performance and type checking of a compiled language. When we started using Java for astronomical applications around 1999 they were the first of their kind in astronomy. Now a great deal of astronomy software is written in Java as are many business applications...

The Gaia satellite was selected as a cornerstone mission of the European Space Agency (ESA) in October 2000 and confirmed in 2002 with a current target launch date of 2011. The Gaia mission will gather on the same observational principles as hipparcos detailed astrometric, photometric and spectroscopic properties of about 1 billion sources brighter than mag V = 20. The nature of the measured ob...
